Enterprise Title Management Integration
Integrating an Enterprise Title Management System will enable the client to centralize the management of content rights, licenses, and metadata across all platforms. This integration will ensure that various teams—such as programming, legal, and operations—have real-time access to accurate information regarding content availability, licensing terms, and distribution.
Project Overview
Our client recognised an opportunity to integrate their existing title metadata system (an aggregator of all series, episode and listings related data) and Broadcast Management System (BMS) to help strengthen their data management framework, streamline content workflows and ensuring accurate and real-time data synchronisation.
Some of the key objectives for our client were to:
-
Improve data governance and create a ‘single source of truth’ for all title metadata.
-
Reduce manual metadata entry and human error by automating the flow of title metadata into the BMS.
-
Ensure new and updated titles from the Title Metadata System are reflected in the BMS instantly.
-
Enhance data discoverability and enable operational efficiencies across the organisation.
Project Approach
Porterson were consulted by the client to provide a technical solution which automated communication between the Title Metadata and the Broadcast Management Systems. The approach to this included:
-
Requirements Gathering and Data Mapping:
-
Porterson conducted thorough analysis with key stakeholders of all fields and structures within the client’s title metadata system to determine the essential fields vs redundant.
-
Once the fields were identified, Porterson created a detailed data mapping document to list and match all required fields between the two systems to introduce overall structure and uniformity across metadata.
-
-
Technical Integration Design and Set Up:
-
After requirements and data mappings were captured, Porterson were able to determine the most suitable technical solution which was to use a Business API (BAPI) integration between the client’s title metadata system and their BMS. Porterson established a strong relationship with the internal Engineering team to define business rules and workflows to query, create and update data based on user-led triggers within the title metadata system.
-
BAPI Functions: Key BAPI functions were identified and used for different operations as follows:
-
GET response: Retrieves detailed title metadata from the Title Metadata System
-
CREATE: Creates title structure and adds new title metadata from the Title Metadata System to the BMS
-
UPDATE: Updates existing title metadata in the BMS when changes are made in the Title Metadata System
-
-
Dashboards and e-mail notifications were configured to provide end users with visibility and confirmation of any newly created or updated title metadata.
-
-
UAT and Operational Readiness:
-
User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Porterson facilitated a number of detailed UAT sessions with key business stakeholders to define scenarios, edge cases and ensuring the metadata met their needs and were correctly captured, processed, and mapped to the BMS.
-
Operational readiness: Porterson guided and supported the integral teams of both title metadata and BMS systems to establish operational workflows and escalation paths to allow for timely, complete, and consistent flow of title metadata. As a result, this meant that external processes such as EPG exports and Regulatory reporting were delivered on time without impact to downstream partners.
-
Key benefits of the integration:
-
Improved Data Governance: Enabled our client better tracking of data lineage, ownership, and usage, which was critical for compliance and data quality management.
-
Streamlined Data Operations: Automated metadata ingestion and management helped reduce manual efforts, which led to more efficient data operations and enhanced inter-team collaborations.
-
Scalability: The integration allowed our client to scale its metadata management capabilities which ensured data governance is consistent across the business.
